Domestic Policy

  • document-scroll-iconCivil Rights policy is tricky to manage. Do too much and you're accused of infringing on states' rights. Do too little and your persecuted for not protecting your citizens.

So how is the EpikVote President managing his Civil Rights policy? From the perspective of a campaign manager he is doing very well! The poll results below are suprisingly similar to how a politican would react; never upset too many people and not trying to please everyone!

  • aircraftcarrierEach generation in almost every country in the world experiences the devastation of armed conflict. The lucky countries avert total devastation because they develop some key characteristics; a strong economy, perceived social equalities, strong alliances, clear separation between the military and police, perceived growth, and political capital among other nations. The unlucky nations most often face defeat because they lack the majority or all of these characteristics.

So what does this mean? It means there is NEVER a right or wrong decision in war. There are only decisions you learn from and live with! The Command-in-Chief is responsible for creating an environment in which deterrence is paramount. However deterrence is a balancing act as well. Send a carrier group into the Strait of Hormuz and you deter. Cross a line that an adversary perceives as a "red-line" and you just forced their hand!

Well it looks like the EpikVote President would let someone else bomb Iran and send U.S. forces to reopen the Strait of Hormuz with force.

What should the U.S. do if Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz? Reopen by Force 83% Closed

  • money-iconEconomic policy is largely a balancing act. Top down the administration hopes laws and regulations are appropriate for the current environment. Bottom up the worker hopes the system is stable to provide compoundable work.

Wield a regulartory pen and the economy constricts. Allow self-regulation and the system implodes.

EpikVote needs more economic policy related polls! From the only two we have it appears that our President would slash spending and accept most of the blame for the price-at-the-pump.

Should Congress & the President make spending cuts before raising taxes? Yes 86% Closed
Who is responsible for gasoline price going up? Obama 59% Closed

  • school-bus-iconEducation is one of the foundations great societies are built upon. The educated tend to organize and direct society in paths towards growth.

There is a balance, however, to education policy. Liberal arts, hard and soft sciences, business, etc. are all strongly encouraged post-high school. Yet if you look at the job vacancies there are many positions where a degree is worthless unless you have a specific set of skills. How's your student loan debt looking right now?

EpikVote needs more polls on education! 63dvp5mkBased on the outcomes the EpikVote President favors higher education over trade schools. Freezing low rates increases the perception among incoming underclassmen and current students that student loans will not be financially prohibitive. We threw in the Lohan poll simply because it's both shocking because our member was brave enough to publish it, and funny because of the options!

  • Apps-preferences-system-power-management-iconAccording to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) the U.S. ranks #2 in total primary energy production and ranks #1 in energy consumption! Like it or not ladies and gentlemen that is the cost of being a society at the top.

Any family with a car or two understands the cost of energy; gas for cars and electric bills to run your tv, mac, pc, charge phones, etc. Now imagine you are the President. You have a cabinet of really smart people to help broker trade deals. You need this because people live longer and babies keep coming! So the U.S. not only will remain #1 in global consumption, but also continue to see a huge gap between how much the U.S. produces and consumes. It's important to note that energy for a nation comes from resources. As the President you like job security... you want to be re-elected or finish out your 8 with a good reputation. Mismanage your energy policy and your citizens pay for it, literally!

What would the EpikVote President do? Looks like he would act similar to how a real administration acts. The nuance is that a sitting President up for re-election will most likely not advocate for direct tax increase on the energy sector. Doing that would kill the campaign coffers! More likely is that a sitting President will wheel-and-deal to allow legislation with subsidies to expire. Oh and if the chance presents itself... sink ships and bomb bunkers!

  • Hospital-Red-iconOk, Mr. President here is your situation. From an administrative perspective you have three huge, no pun intended, problems.
    • First problem: Most Americans don't understand the difference between "food" e.g. fish, lettuce, nuts, and "food products" e.g. partially hydrogenated junk we figured out how to process from stuff we found on the floor.
    • Second problem: Most Americans consume more calories than they need.
    • Third problem: We are living longer in a time when the pharmaceutical industry can manufacture almost any cure to any ailment... at a price of course!

After decades of fast-paced, high-stress, social eating and drinking most Americans are walking chemical plants! The solution, prescribe a chemical to counteract the others or to regulate a body function or pain.

EpikVote only has two polls remotley dealing with health care policy. Neither addresses the issue of what do you want your elected leader to do. Please consider the above commentary and submit a poll or two on the topic, e.g., Should the President lobby congress to (pass a bill, vote a certain way, kill a bill) on/for (medicare, medicaid, Obama Care, funding)?

  • fbi-iconA characteristic found in successful societies is the clear separation between the military and police forces! On paper it sounds good and looks good. In real life it's not so simple. Many threats the United States faces inside its borders are from small organizations or teams. However those teams have access to money that often allows them to purchase military grade equipment from black markets.

So what does this have to do with homeland security? It's simple actually! Being at the top in the world means the country as a whole is a beacon for blame. Add into the equation that the U.S. is fairly open with government information and very bureaucratic. Now you have a scenario where policy change is slow, it's mostly public knowledge and Google search engine friendly, and provides the opportunity for motivated militants to exploit weaknesses through research and analysis. How easy is it? Well if you know what information the military, FBI, and local law enforcement can and cannot share about people then it's really easy!

So you are the President. You know bad people want to take you out and are will to hurt your citizens. Yet the Consitution and laws prohbit moving most of the national assets to do work inside the U.S. You could lobby congress to change some laws and turn the U.S. into a police state. However no one likes being looked over their shoulder. Although you can't allow ever more sophisticated enemies to exploit gaps in national security.

What do you do? First off you need to create some polls centered around the tenants of homeland security policy. Border wall discussion is fine for now, but too polarized to be a valid policy characteristic.

  • family-iconEconomists and policy makers will go 9 rounds in a boxing ring before they cede their positions on the value and viability of social security. Economists crunch numbers and see a unsustainable program. Policy makers want their President re-elected or the candidate elected and won't tell the largest voting segment in the U.S. (seniors) that their entitlements are going away.

If you're under 40 then you probably accepted the rumour that the piggy bank will be empty when it's your time. Now if you are close to retiring or are retired your perspective is different. Fixed budgets can be scary and that's a fact for the majority of U.S. citizens.

What is the Epik President doing to balance the budget and keep the voters happy? According to the only poll on the subject (please create some more) the Epik President would lobby congress to raise the retirement age.

    PollOutcomeResultsStatus
Should the Social Security retirement age be raised? Yes | To 70 60% | 50% Closed

  • calculator-iconOne of the more popular topics on EpikVote is taxes! It's a hot topic for many reasons. Who in their right mind wants to hand over the little cash you worked for to the IRS? Maybe some do because there is value in the services the government provides, e.g. national security, infrastructure, international trade policy, and much more.

Taxes in the simplest sense enable our federal, state, and local governments to function. Each level has distinct responsibilities to its population. Fulfilling the requirements of those duties takes cash to pay for people, equipment, and more so society functions!. No sitting president, governor, or mayor has a special Yoda powers that that paves roads, teaches kids, protects cities our our country, and makes bureaucrats do bureaucratic stuff.

Here is how the Epik President's tax policy is shaping up! Federal income taxes would probably stay the same. Oil & Gas industry would see taxes rise, but probably only as subsidies expire. The Epik President would definitely push for an aggressive budget that cuts spending. Oh sorry Mr. Buffett, the Epik President is probably a fan of how you manage and lead in your industry... yet not too happy with your ideas on taxation policy.
